Real Touch – See how different players control the ball in unique and different ways based on where and how you control them, dictating the flow of the game based on how they react to the unpredictable movement of the ball.
Precise Pass – Combining Real Touch and real ball physics, passing is an art form in PES 2017. Many factors determine the speed and accuracy of the ball. The pass that is made on the best situation and timing will generate a perfect trajectory, creating a great satisfaction when a killer pass is made.
Authentic Visuals – For PES 2017 the visuals have seen a major upgrade, offering Authentic Visuals thanks to the further incorporation of Fox Engine. Nothing has been left untouched, from the player models, lighting, crowds, pitch and stadiums totally revamped. Never has a game looked so real.
Natural Player Movement – Hundreds of new animations have been added to bring the players and goalkeepers to life – but it doesn’t stop there. New features such as Real Touch and Precise Pass see huge benefit, giving a vast array of movements when trapping and passing the ball.
Goal Keeping – Keepers see a great jump in quality through added motions and animations, creating the most agile keepers in PES history. Attacking moments will be more dramatic than ever, bringing the best feeling of achievement when the goal is scored.
Total Team Control – Users can instantly change the attacking and defending mentality of the team, which can be tweaked and carefully controlled with simple controls, being able to immediately react to the unpredictability of the sport.
Advanced Instructions – Strategies that are quite individually defined such as Tiki-taka and heavy man-mark which is strongly based on team ideology can be set in “Advanced Instructions”, which adds a huge variety in how you plan to win.
Corner Kick Control – Control the defensive strategies on a set piece, such as marking zonal or man-marking. Offensive options are also included such as specific player movement.
Adaptive AI – For the first time in a football game, the AI will learn how you play! Player and team behavior has always been a staple of the PES series and for PES 2017 Adaptive AI will change sports games forever.

Control corner kick defensive strategies?

Evo nesto

Finally it was time for the deployment of our impressions of the new PES game after the lifting of the global ban it, and we have a lot to tell you about the new game. As a start, and the first thing that drew our attention is the addition of Arsenal in the game full of their rights, look no further for the North London team fake. The difference which existed in addition to the demo Arsenal are Atletico Madrid, and the French and German teams. But let's not optimistic about a lot now, with PES do not know what can happen, we hope that they do not lose the rights of other clubs in return for the rights of Arsenal.

If before we enter in our own experience to talk about the most important additions which Konami has in submitting a copy of this year. For a start there are Real Touch property and which has been working on the players and their personalities more, even lesser-known players. For example, you'll find the response to a player like Giroux Arsenal striker heavier while receiving the ball from a player like Mehari Ozil. Receiving the ball and know every player skills and Znath will be important during play. Also there Presice Pass property and which through which the player must be more precise during the Manipulator, so that should be stationed correctly and knows the right time to do Baltmrerat kinds.

It has been several new tactics in the game, including the ability to add defensive and offensive two plans before the game, and Tfielhm through easy shortcuts in the game controller during the match without stopping. Also been offering special tactics to kick balls will help the players to behave professionally largest and through quick shortcuts can be activated as a corner ball. For example, you can guide your team defense to defense to cover a certain area of the box, or defense surveillance using man to man style. You may, for example, an offensive team and put you in a position "train" where they stand in one line while lunging for a corner.

pes2017-demo-2

There are also important amendments to the guard, where he is now has new graphics, but more importantly, it has become more powerful than before. During our experience we noticed that the goalkeeper is very versed guarding him, so he issued almost every nearby balls until Alanfradat. We tried to Date directing balls to the corners of the net, sometimes using a ball wrapped by R2 and the registration is very difficult. When talking with Konami we were told that this was based on the reactions of the players for the weak quality of last year's goalkeeper. And when we talked about the currently excessive strength told us to wait to experience the game against other teams, Vaharas in the demo, such as Neuer considered one of the best five guards in the world at the very least, and possibly unfair rule through them.

There are also a lot of work has been on artificial intelligence, especially when playing against the computer. Now it has been providing property called Adaptive AI, and means that the computer will now act with you based on your habits and your style of play. For example, suppose you you scroll to a certain star of the team for most of your games and rely on it excessively, here the computer will monitor the player dually even stop you. Or example if you rely on the parties clearly to attack the computer will strengthen defense when Alozarh to address you.

We have to play for several hours and games, both at the level of clubs or teams. Playing system was elaborate, and this was wonderful, as the game has reached a very high level of physical and graphics level. Usually do not find excellent response from the outset of the players while doing Baltmrerat especially interfaces, Vendtr to modify options between manual and automatic. But in this year's version and found a wonderful grains, Most of the passes which we were fantastic in terms of strength and distance, and the response of the players during the attack and penaeids was excellent.

A common objections players last year was against the ease of payment, playing field has been helping players in an exaggerated, and if all are guaranteed a shot between the three symptoms, especially with the players proficient. This year has been reduced assistance during repayment, so that became the player that the aiming and stationed better until it gets an excellent shot.

Finally graphics in the game was fantastic, semiconductor players were very close to reality and use Fox engine reached advanced stages. Konami has also decided to interest some additional details, such as watching the players breathe in cold weather conditions, or see the water bounce of the goal net during recording in rainy conditions.

In general the game has not changed much as far as I got on the amendments offered by weight better system of play. And PES 2017 from the initial experience looks great and offers football realistic Pfizaaiah and graphics are the best currently in this area. The Konami has issued an updated version based on Anttiyaat media at E3 two weeks from now, and that got us the opportunity to try it we will transfer you to RCI as we are used.

Hi, this is I think the first PES 2017 written impressions from the press in Milan playtest. I translated the most important points. Original article in Arabic by True Gaming website.

- Teams in demo: Arsenal (yes confirmed licensed), Atletico, France, Germany.
- Keepers have new animations and more importantly they are stronger than ever, the keeper we played against dealt with most shots from close range, even 1-on-1s.
- Difficult to score with R2.
- Amazing gameplay, very high level of physicality and animations. In previous PES games, we oftenly used to find passing not satisfactory when playtesting so we had to tinker with the passing options to suit our liking, in this PES however we find a great balance. Most passes we made were amazing in terms of power and distance, and players reactions to those passes were great too.
- The issue of the ease of shooting and scoring from last year has been addressed. Now you have to position yourself and aim properly to get an excellent shot.
- Amazing graphics and player likeness. You can notice the breathing effect of players in cold weather, or water splashing off the nets when scoring in the rain.
- Generally the game did not change massively from previous year but rather received improvements that provide an overall balanced gameplay, and looks amazing from our first playtest (several hours) and provides realistic football with physicality and animations that are currently the best in the field.

We find ourselves here again, yet something is different this time around. The competitive landscape has clearly shifted. After a full console generation of playing second best to EA SPORTS’ FIFA franchise, the former undisputed champion has finally had some time in the sunshine. “Control Reality” is the marketing spiel this year, with improvements reported across the board; yet extra focus given to gameplay. The early code we had the opportunity to sample allowed us to play with a selection of four licensed teams, including Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, France and Germany.

This is evident from the onset with the pace of the game feeling more representative of the real sport. During different phases of the match, the pace of the on field action fluctuates but the user always maintains the control. This is linked directly to the new Precise Passing, which sounds like a generic feature from a Mega Drive era soccer game yet offers more crisp and varied passing than PES has seen in almost a decade. Passes have more weight to them, with timing and accuracy being far more influential on outcomes. So far so good.

The shooting has also seen some tweaks this season, potentially as a consequence of attention being given to the ball physics as a whole. Thankfully, gone are those Captain Tsubasa/Roy of the Rovers laser-guided shots that plagued PES 2014 – 2016. Shooting is now clearly more influenced by user input, even with the default assisted controls. Timing and accuracy again take centre stage here, providing a wider range of shooting outcomes compared to the previous year. The positioning of the shooter appears to be a more integral component now, with the accuracy of efforts depending on the shooter’s stance and balance. Although it still remains challenging, we found ourselves using the finesse shot more often and when timed and positioned well, it produces some rather satisfying moments. I’d still like to see more accurate ball trajectories factoring Magnus and drag effects, but this will do for now. Its satisfying knowing, I won’t be conceding long range efforts at an unrealistic rate as both the shooting and keepers have clearly been improved.

Keepers have seen a much welcomed enhancement, with a wider range of animations and that urgency they always lacked now starting to appear. Keepers pull off some spectacular saves and deal with the simple things well. They also appear to have more intelligence when dealing with one-on-one situations. Neuer was up to his usual tricks bearing down on strikers once they broke through the last line of defence.

This year sees the introduction of Total Team Control and Corner Kick Strategies and I am pleased to say they do not appear to be back of the box features! In our limited time with the code we managed to utilise the corner kick strategies to our advantage in order to have more dangerous efforts on goal. The total team control offers the ability to change your tactics on the fly and at particular instances within a match, with far more variety than PES or FIFA have ever offered. Adding a layer of strategic depth, this allows those tactically minded players to really gain an advantage through real-time tactical manipulations. It remains unclear what the long term implications of such a system will be on underlying formation structures and AI behaviors but it looks promising in our time with the game.

Another gameplay related feature that has seen much promotion is the Adaptive AI. Unfortunately given our intention to try a variety of players, teams, tactics and play against fellow gaming journalists we were unable to truly experience what Konami considers a key new feature. It could potentially be one that appears with repeated exposure or requires more engaged game modes such as Master League. However, we did notice the CPU AI become more defensively prepared for crosses in a match where we kept firing the crosses to Fernando Torres. The defensive AI almost pre-empted that crosses were going to be fired in if central penetration was unsuccessful, providing an indicator that this system may actually be doing its thing in the background.

Last but not least the graphics in PES 2017 have seen a significant improvement and we are not just talking players faces. In both the close-up replays and the default gameplay cameras the visuals look more sharp with greater attention to detail. Player faces, kits and the surrounding environment all look great. It’s nice to see that the PES team are still squeezing more out of the FOX Engine. There are also a host of new animations providing more variety to the majority of player actions, giving you more of those “that looked great moments”. We still believe that PES could really benefit from a bespoke physics/collision engine that would further enhance the game’s visuals.

As always PES has continued to shine when it comes to giving players their own unique in-game persona, call it Player ID if you must. Griezmann was a joy to play with, as was Pogba. We look forward to sampling a wider pool of players in future playtests. Particularly with the increasingly impressive likenesses that Konami keep delivering.

Although PES 2017 does not appear to have changed significantly compared to its older brother, the improvements deliver a more satisfying and representative sports game. By directly addressing the community feedback and providing some additional innovation, PES 2017 provides a far better footballing experience than its predecessor. We hope that this opinion is only enhanced in future playtests closer to launch.

Surprise is how slow this new Pro Evolution Soccer feels. The last few PES games have, in my hands at least, offered a faster, more frenetic brand of football, alongside the exceptional level of fluidity that's also been offered. Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, on the other hand, feels much, much more considered. The free flowing football that's marked out recent games, and the sense of brilliant unpredictability and near infinite possibility engendered by PES's current philosophy, are all still very much present. It's just that what once ran like so much fizzy pop, bubbling and bursting all over the pitch, has now thickened to a sweet molasses.

After just over an hour's play I'm still not entirely sure it's to my taste, but you can never jump to conclusions after a quick sampler of games like these. Playing to feet feels like it's encouraged more thanks to a new emphasis on first-touch, while goals are harder to come by through design (PES brand manager Adam Bhatti says there'll be no more 6-6 draws like we saw in last year's game - I'm too embarrassed to admit I've gone whole afternoons with the game happy with the brace of goals I'd bundled in off wayward shins), with vastly improved keepers quicker to pounce on follow-up shots.

Elsewhere, there's an emphasis on reading the game, the push for player individuality now extending to playmakers like Iniesta while deeper tactical options of an older generation of PES returns - with the left trigger held down, the right shoulder and bumper buttons allow you to conduct the pace of your play, switching between four styles of attack and defence.

If you're literate in football - I'm a Chelsea fan, for heaven's sake, so I'll happily admit I'm not - there's a deeper, more considered take on the sport, tied in with new preset tactical options. But, if you're more a historian of PES - and having been invested since its pre-history with the SNES' International Superstar Soccer, I'm much better versed in that regard - then it's a welcome return of an older feature that's been excised for a little too long.

As a fan of PES more than a fan of football, it's the little details in 2017 that really get me excited. Stand between the sticks defending a penalty and you can playfully point to each corner of the goal - a feature that was present last year, but one that's much, much more pronounced thanks to some new animations - while corners are now brilliantly pliable thanks to new options on the d-pad, allowing you to mark certain players or time a run at the far post.

What else is new? There's talk of an AI system that learns as you play - so rely too much on a certain player and they'll be slowly marked out of the game. It's a cute idea, but I'm sure I've heard similar touted many times before so I'll wait until I've properly seen it in order to believe it. Other improvements are slightly more tangible from the off.

As you'd expect some three years into PES's current generation tenure, and three years into its dalliance with the Fox Engine, it looks the part, even if the big visual improvements aren't fully implemented in the slim build available for the press demo. Likenesses have been improved, more players have been uniquely modelled and it's as handsome as ever - there might be a gulf between PES and FIFA in terms of budget, and in sales, but it's PES that's always looked the more stylish of the two, to my eyes at least. PES 2017 is doing nothing to shift that perception; it's a handsome game with a certain character its rival lacks.

This isn't, however, going to be the PES that finally grabs all the licences and finds the level of polish that will give it the broader appeal FIFA currently enjoys. That's not to say it isn't making steps in the right direction - Atlético Madrid are joined by Arsenal in the demo, and they're both fully licensed, suggesting some new additions are being made (although the editor proved so comprehensive in PES 2016 it was easy to sidestep the licensing issues, if you had a spare afternoon that is). Other announcements on features and licences are to be announced at a later date, but for now there's at least one very welcome bit of news given the strife surrounding last year's game.

PES 2017 will have a day one roster update, and beyond that there'll now be weekly updates for both online and offline play - so hopefully it's an end to wrestling with outdated squads, and given the questions around Konami's commitment to big budget gaming it's reassuring to hear it's going all in with the latest PES. It's never going to be a straight fight with its opposition - you'll likely get better odds on Middlesborough winning the Premier League next year than PES toppling FIFA in the charts, though stranger things have happened - but for those wise to the series' charms it's looking like consolidation for what's already a great game.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2016, for the first time in years, provided stiff competition to EA’s juggernaut FIFA series. A quiet revolution a few years in the making brought an incredible game of football, and with it Konami finally provided a viable alternative to FIFA. PES 2017 looks to refine rather than overhaul last year’s work, continuing its excellence on the pitch.

Jumping into a Atletico Madrid vs Arsenal match, my first step is to tinker with the lineup and tactics. PES 2016 provided a variety of options with which you could create a very personal squad that played precisely how you wanted, from how high the backline pressed to attacking and defending philosophies and much more.

Konami has tidied up the user interface, with player’s faces accompanying names. A great new feature sees player stats alter in real-time as you try to switch a player’s position. By clicking on centre back Diego Godin, the rating of other players on the team will rise and fall depending on their ability to play in his position. Antoine Griezmann’s overall rating will plummet as he’d be a terrible centre half. This means you can see the effect a potential change will make before making it, saving a few minutes amongst all the tactical switching. It provides information much more quickly in order that you can choose the best 11.

There’s also a neater-looking advanced tactics screen, where you can select four different philosophies, two attacking and two defending. These include Gegenpress, load the box, tiki-taka and others. In other games these would seem superfluous, but as PES proved last year, player AI is well-drilled, and that proves to be the case this year too.

As the players walk out onto the Neue Sonne Arena (Konami continues to be a distant second in the licence game, unfortunately), it’s clear PES 2017 ups the stakes even further in the visual department. Player detail is astonishing, with faces looking incredibly lifelike – Lassana Diarra-aside, who looks a little like a man-baby.

Thereferee blows his whistle and you find yourself still very much in the wonderful, free-flowing PES of last year. Small additions make a huge difference. New player animations bring an added layer of realism. Fernando Torres allows a through-ball to run through his legs, taking it with his instep before unleashing a ferocious strike past Petr Cech and into the net. Filipe Luis controls a cross-field pass by puffing out his chest like a proud hen to bring it under control. The myriad ways in which players react to the ball and bring it under control makes you feel fully immersed in the game.

Passing, movement, the sheer variety of ways in which these players behave is simply lovely to watch, and it also makes you feel like a better player, too.
Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, noticing a player attacking your right shoulder, and skinning him with your first touch to slot the ball into the top corner becomes the most satisfying thing in the world – the touch as air-punch-worthy as the strike.
After a couple of 3-0 wins, I was concerned that things were becoming pedestrian. However, I discovered that the difficulty was set to regular. In my first “Super Star” game of Germany vs France, it was a whole different ball game.

(http://www.trustedreviews.com/pes-2017-photos)France were chasing every ball as if the team was coached by Jurgen Klopp. Players would track runners and intercept passes with fierce aggression, launching counters before I had a chance to catch my breath. It was exhilarating. The first half of that match was one of the most thrilling I’ve experienced in a football game.

The AI felt intelligent, countering my tactics. At first I utilised Ozil on the left flank, beating the defender with one-twos with the German fullback, but after a couple of successful breaks, the tactic stopped working. Could I simply be noticing this because Konami has said the AI adapts to how you play? Quite possibly, but it was no less true that I had to adapt my strategy multiple times throughout the course of the match.

Switching back to a game of Atletico vs Arsenal, it was entirely different. Atleti were happy to let me pass the ball around them, only pressing the ball once I was close to the box. With Aaron Ramsey on one flank and Alexis Sanchez on the other, I was powerless without any pockets of space to take advantage of as a result of Madrid’s deep defensive line. Change was needed. On came Olivier Giroud for Ramsey, Danny Welbeck moving to the flank. Suddenly, it started to click. Attacking down the wings proved a viable option thanks to having a target man in the centre. Atletico on the backfoot. 1-0 Arsenal, Giroud. Elation.
This is the beauty of PES: every decision you make feels like it has a tangible impact on play. I’m not simply making substitutions when fitness bars run into the red; I’m changing the way my team operates to counter opponent strategies. It’s something that FIFA has struggled with, and is therefore a major feather in the cap of Konami.

The only downside I found in my few hours with the game was there were too many instances, on any difficulty, where I was able to run straight past defenders at an angle. It felt a little too ISS 64, where defenders would wait and wait, and then wait some more, without attempting a tackle. It created too many times where attacking buildup was spoiled because I felt the pace of a player coupled with defensive hesitancy was the dominant tactic to employ. I wanted to beat the team, not game individuals.
PES’s problems have never been on the pitch. PES 2016 also presented a superlative game of football, but whenever you tried taking that match online with friends or random players, the horrific lag rendered the experience unplayable, negating a significant chunk of the game.

It’s easy to get swept up in how good the football is in 2017, but until we get to see how this game behaves in an online environment, everything has to be taken with a big caveat. Yes, this is a refinement on what was already a brilliant kick around the park, but I really hope the experience carries over to online myClub, ranked matches and everything else.

First Impressions

PES 2016 is an excellent game of football, so it’s fitting that PES 2017 presents a refinement rather than an overhaul. Gameplay offers more animations, adding a further layer of realism as players control, pass and move in more ways than ever before. Couple this with them looking superb, the AI feeling intelligent and adaptive, and you have a great game.
It’s the online element that needs consideration. While PES’s gameplay needed only fine-tuning, its online systems have proven to be in need of a drastic overhaul to provide an, at least, satisfying user experience.
Until Konami speaks about the changes it’s bringing to online modes, one must tread with caution. This remains a superb game of football, and hopefully it’s one that will continue to be so for away games, too.

Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) is back – and PES is brilliant. Announced last week, GamesRadar+ lead sports writer Ben Wilson has already been hands-on with Konami's new football effort, and discovered a game that is going to push FIFA hard throughout next season and beyond. How, though, to cover every last aspect of said behind-closed-doors dalliance with PES 2017? By answering your questions posed via Twitter, Facebook and email, of course. Here's everything we know so far…

Since 2006/7 [PES] is not good. Is there any hope [it] becomes a fantastic simulator again?
Marcelo Vitulli, via Twitter

You’re right that the PS3 years weren’t overly kind to Pro Evo, but it’s been enjoying a renaissance over the last two seasons, and PES 2017 feels like the happy culmination of a three-year rebuilding project. On the evidence of my hands-on – four hours behind closed doors at Konami – it plays a wonderful game of football. *Many* wonderful games of football.

(And I write that as someone who has chosen FIFA over PES for the entirety of the PS3 and PS4 eras.)

A small caveat: so far, I've only been able to play as four teams: Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, France, and Germany. But all handle wonderfully. Konami is bigging up improved passing precision and ball control this year, and it is right to: players truly caress the ball to one another, and the game engine does a sublime job of facilitating your attempts to play dreamboat football. So whereas in FIFA 16 a diagonal pass from, say, centre back to right midfielder might fly out of play if you didn’t get the intended angle perfect via the left stick, PES is more forgiving. In PES 2017, under- or overhit a similar pass and the recipient might need an extra split-second to trap it, but I see zero balls spanged out of play due to slightly imprecise controller inputs.

Ball physics have also improved markedly. In PES 2016, my immersion wavered every time a goal kick took on the trajectory of a beach ball once off the ground. The little stutter each time a player took a touch when dribbling similarly dampened authenticity. Now aerial trajectories look and feel just right, while there's a seamlessness to trapping and running with the ball, headers, deflections, everything really.

Where PES 2017 really shines is in the final third of the pitch. Genuinely intricate, accurate passing enables you to recycle possession in tight areas while waiting to unleash a killer ball to your centre forward or overlapping full-back, and that upgraded control means you can truly beat an opponent – beat a succession of opponents – using sudden changes of pace, or deft turns. There are matches where I carve out delicate, incisive passing moves and repeatedly threaten with my wide men, without ever needing to lay a thumb on the right stick. It’s so refreshing.

A great example of this all meshing together comes as France, against Germany. After a sustained period of opposition pressure, I manage to work the ball across the midfield from Matuidi to Griezmann, via a series of fast, precise passes. But when Griezmann plays the ball inside to Giroud, he temporarily lacks support, so I need the Arsenal forward to hold it up while plotting my next move. In FIFA, his marker – Hummels – would likely step through and win the ball with ease, but here, a combination of Giroud's strength and my minimal inputs on the left stick enable him to retain possession long enough to spot Sagna's overlapping run in behind. A blast of the sprint button and I've darted away from Hummels, a tap of triangle and the ball is in Sagna's path, a double press of circle to ping over a low cross, and Matuidi, who started it all, arrives at the back post… and fires wide. Yet despite the miss, I have a huge sense of satisfaction over the exquisite build-up.

All of this looks the part, by the way. Cosmetically it's hard to say it's a certain percentage better than last year's, but PES is beginning to pull away from FIFA on the player likenesses front, and new keeper and striker animations – more on which shortly – add to the feel of complete visual authenticity. PES 2017 doesn't just feel like the real thing, but looks like it too.

I’ll discuss other improvements – and there are many – throughout this piece. On which note…

Any improvements to the keepers?
Smidgey87, via Twitter

Sweet mother of mercy, yes. At long last.

Konami says new goalkeeper animations and intelligence are a priority, and it isn't fibbing. I see Hugo Lloris have issues with a couple of shots cannoned straight at him – spilling the ball back into the danger area – but otherwise custodians are much, much more trustworthy.
Netminders truly leap for shots arrowed into the top corner, scramble across goal to claw at deflected efforts, concede noticeably fewer goals by the ball going 'through' them, and demonstrate welcome individuality: Manuel Neuer acts as a sweeper keeper, constantly rushing out to clear overhit through balls, whereas Petr Cech reaches skyscraper heights when coming to claim crosses. (Almost always successfully.)

Between the sticks, things are very promising at this stage.

[Are] there cpu fouls now? Been none for last few years?
Bluetony88, via Twitter

More, definitely, but still only a couple per game. What’s also worth nothing is that practically every foul the opposition or I concede leads to a yellow card in the current build. Certainly not a game-breaker, but this element could do with a bit of fine tuning.

Who is the best player in this year’s game?
KingNewDay, via email

Too early to say, given that thus far only four teams have been playable. For the record, the top three from that set are Germany forward Thomas Muller (rated 90), France engine-man Paul Pogba (89) and Atletico stopper Diego Godin (87).

How is the shooting this year?
Kamron Singh, via Twitter

Like the passing, it feels entirely natural, and awards you the sense that you’re in control of professionals. In PES 2016 I found it hard to get true lift into my pops at goal; if felt that the game needed me to keep the ball low in order to score. Now it’s truly possible to drill shots into all four corners of the goal. PES 2017 makes fantastic use of contextual animations, too: when I hold the button to shoot with Torres but the ball arrives behind him, he instinctively attempts to backheel it goalwards. Similarly, I see Welbeck redirect a knee-height cross narrowly over with a clever heel flick. No modifier button or skill move involved: again, the game reads what you’re trying to do and delivers the most appropriate animation for it.

It’s worth nothing, too, that net physics are astonishingly lifelike now. Instead of successful shots sagging into the net, some come flying back out and pinball around the box – and when that happens you can slam the ball home for a second time. It’s a brilliant, satisfying little detail which suggests Konami is really pushing hard to deliver the beautiful game’s intricacies in addition to its fundamentals.

How exactly do the new 'Advanced Tactics' options work?
Dean Roberts, via email

As soon as you jump into the edit line-up screen, you’re presented with seven tactics fields (four attacking, three defensive) to instantly tinker with – in addition to swapping players in and out, natch.

Each of these fields currently contains two options, with (I’m reliably informed) many more to come between now and the game’s autumn release.

They are:
Attacking styles (counter attack/possession game)
Build up (short pass/long pass)
Attacking area (centre/wide)
Positioning (maintain formation/flexible)
Defensive style (all out defence/frontline pressure)
Containment area (middle/wide)
Pressurising (aggressive/conservative)
You can also alter the ‘support range’ (how far players look to spread themselves out in order to receive passes) and height of the defensive line, using two gauges which run from 1 to 10.

Many of these options were possible last year using sliders, but having them available at a flick of the Pause button is a big leap forwards – particularly online, where the 120 second pre-match tactical window always felt insufficient to do all your necessary tinkering and strategising.

Are they employing competent people to do the rosters this time?
Sir Lord Pâté, via Twitter

In a word, yes. Global product manager Adam Bhatti has promised that the mistakes of last year – where the post-transfer window update omitted key moves, such as Anthony Martial’s switch to Man Utd and Virgil van Dijk signing for Southampton – will not be repeated.

“The roster issue took the wind completely from our sails. It took us a lot of time to recover,” he told Squawka. “In the past, PES has been this title with a lot of mystique – a Japanese company, not too forthcoming. With 2016 we were straight off the bat. At E3, Neymar was out there, [we revealed] the pre-order content and release dates. A lot of people appreciated that up front. What we learnt is not to mess up on the roster update ever again. If we do have issues, [we must] be able to quickly fix them and not make our consumers wait.”

Who is licensed this year?
Richie Wells, via Facebook

At present, only Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, France and Germany are confirmed, but Konami re-upped its licensing agreement with the Champions League last season, so expect all the major teams who’ve qualified for the 2016/17 campaign to appear. Anything beyond that is currently speculation, but it’d be a huge shock if the team count dropped from PES 2016’s count of 500+.

Will there by any new game modes?
Joseph Scragg, via Facebook

No word on new modes at present, but one big feature that is promised across all of them when they do materialise is adapative AI. (Indeed, Konami says it will “change sports games forever”.) Truthfully, I see little evidence of this – in fact, computer sides repeatedly fail to react to me closing them down on goal kicks, and towards the end of the day I'm able to create a succession of chances by tackling their full backs after they’ve received passes from the keeper. That said, my Konami representative insists it is coming. Certainly one element to keep an eye on.

Find out about changes/improvements to Master League please? Ryan Seymour, via Twitter

Nothing to report yet. Sorry. We’ve been vocal about wanting classic ML players such as Valery and Ximenes return, but Konami is keeping its plans secret for now.

Can you go into details on zonal and man marking?
Harry Friend, via email

Yep. When defending corners, you’re able to select your marking style using the D-pad. Pressing left selects ‘man’, pressing right choose ‘zonal’, and pressing up opts for ‘mixed’.

The best way to outline exactly how this works is to give specific examples using the two national teams available during my hands-on. In each example, I am France and the AI controls Germany.

‘Man’ puts one man on each post (Diarra near, Evra far), with the five German players in the box all marked tightly by my Gallic charges. Varane takes Muller, Koscielny shadows Schweinsteiger, Sagna tracks Gundogan, Griezmann handles Kroos, and Matuidi chaperones Gotze.

‘Zone’ sets things up very differently. Matudiu takes the near post, with Griezmann just in front of him to defend any low cross. One bank of four then set up across the six-yard box: Pogba, Varane, Koscielny, and Sagna. Another, second bank of two – Evra and Diarra – sit between the six-yard box and the penalty spot.

For ‘mixed', Matuidi takes the near post, this time with Evra just ahead, protecting from any drilled ball. Koscielny, Varane and Pogba form a bank of three along the six-year box, but Diarra and Griezmann take a man each – Schweinsteiger and Muller respectively.

Of the three options, I find zonal to be the most effective, with one of that bank on the six-year box usually rising to clear anything close to the keeper. But there’s no question it will change game-by-game depending on any given team’s collective height and aerial prowess.

Is it gonna be THE FIFA killer? Like in the good old days of PS2?
Suriya Prakash, via Twitter

Regardless of quality, there’s close-to-zero chance of PES catching FIFA in sales terms any time soon. Sports fans – quite rightly – love licenses, and EA still holds the upper hand on that front, along with presentation. Plus EA’s effort, fashionable as it is to knock it, is still a very good game. So FIFA killer? In sales terms: no.

But will it outperform FIFA critically? It has every chance. This is the most impressed I’ve been by a Konami sports game on first play since the day a decade ago when Official PlayStation 2 Magazine – GamesRadar+’s sister publication – took receipt of early code for PES6. We knew then, months before review, that we had an instant classic on our hands. I have a similar gut feeling about this.

It features the best of everything you loved about PS2 era PES – swift, almost effortless passing; a sense of variety and achievement in every goal; true player individuality; a magic you can’t quite put into words – with all the necessary modern trimmings, such as true ball and net physics, incredible player likenesses, and an eye for the intangible.

If I had to use a single word to describe it, I'd use 'organic'. It feels like anything can happen, at any time. And how long is it since we could truly say that in association with either of the big two football games?

Plot the progress of the Pro Evolution Soccer series onto a graph and its trajectory wouldn't look drastically different to that of Liverpool FC. From humbler beginnings, both PES and Liverpool have experienced once-unimaginable highs that eventually nose-dived into unthinkable lows.

Where Liverpool were once the untouchable champions of Europe and England, Manchester United stepped up to take their place. PES, whose releases throughout the PS2 era saw it revolutionize the game of digital soccer, dropped the ball with the onset of the PS3 and Xbox 360 and allowed EA Sports' FIFA run away with title after title.
Thanks to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, however, and the masterful outing that was last year's PES 2016, the outlook for these two former champions is looking brighter than it has in a decade.

Both club and game are seeking to build on recent gains in confidence by focusing on the style of soccer on the pitch, rather than the elements surrounding it. In the case of PES 2017, its dev team is setting out to offer its players a more realistic form of soccer, rather than focusing on new game modes or official player and team licences.

Presumably in an effort to galvanize itself an ever stronger and more committed niche within the sports gaming space, PES 2017 is wholeheartedly dedicating itself to realism. Virtually every change between last season and the upcoming one is explicitly focused on creating a closer resemblance with what you see on TV, even if that means the learning curve and volume of options is, for some, going to be difficult to comprehend.

While FIFA appears more interested in providing a flash, fantastical interpretation of the game (with its abundance of skill moves and predilection for attacking players), PES 2017 is more grounded in replicating the fundamental building blocks of team play.

For instance, a new advanced tactics system allows you to define how you want your team to act, with options for both when in possession and when chasing it. Prior to kick-off, you can assign defensive and attacking systems to the D-pad that can be cycled through whenever you see cause to do so.

If you want your fullbacks to be responsible for creating all of the width in your team, then you can employ the “attacking full backs” approach, triggering your forward players to drop inside in order to be ready to receive the ball from wide. Alternatively, the “false fullbacks” option brings your wide players to the middle and help dominate the battle through the central areas.

In defense it could be that you want to fill your own penalty area with as many players as possible to prevent goals being conceded from crosses, or play a high line to catch that aggressive striker offside. There are many options to choose from, and it’s wise to practice with all of them in order to both be ready to face opponents of all dispositions and to give yourself as many routes as possible to recover from a losing position.

PES 2017's revamped AI, I'm told, actively learns player patterns, which compounds the need to educate yourself on how tactical approaches can ideally operate in different situations. If you consistently seek to load up in the middle of the park then you can expect your digital counterpart to either bring in more midfielders or seek to play the ball out wide as quickly as possible to make use of the space you've vacated. With only about ten games under my belt, it's difficult to tell how intelligent PES 2017's AI is at this point. However, the focus on implementing adaptive AI highlights just how seriously Konami wants you to think about the “why” of your actions as opposed to simply the “how”.

Such details carry over into even the simplest of actions, such as controlling the ball. Players are noticeably better at using their first touch to direct where the ball will end up after receiving a pass. Think fast and you can immediately tap the ball in a direction that will embarrass the opposing defender as he skids past you, giving you time to consider your options. A skillful striker can swivel and take the ball on his chest in one motion, potentially leading to a shooting opportunity that wouldn't otherwise have arisen. On the other side of the coin, a keeper who is good with his feet, such as Manuel Neuer, can overcome a poor back pass from a defender by neatly using the outside of his foot to trick a rushing attacker into guessing the wrong angle to attempt a tackle.

Indeed, goalkeepers seem to have undergone several key improvements. They react much more quickly to shots, positioning themselves more intelligently before the ball is fired towards them, and get up off of the floor with more urgency if the ball is still in play after their initial save. Keeper quality, or lack thereof, was one of the major disappointments with PES 2016, so it's nice to see the problem being addressed.

It is important to state here, though, that we've only played with the world class goalkeepers that guard the sticks for Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Germany, and France. To continue with the Liverpool analogy, it's difficult to believe Simon Mignolet (or is it Karius now?) is going to be quite so impressive.

Should Mignolet somehow surprise us all next season and become the player that he hinted he might be in his younger years, then that upgrade should be represented through weekly updates. PES 2016 suffered for not providing regular tweaks to player ability, and failing to keep the game up to date with the latest transfers, but the plan is to fix that.

A patch will be rolled out on launch day that updates rosters to take into account the latest transfer activity, and that is to be followed up with weekly player stat alterations that reflect recent performances. Whoever turns out to be next season's surprise hit, in the vein of Marcus Rashford or N'Golo Kante this past season, can be expected to enjoy a significant stat boost.

As welcomed as such boosts are, the most important progression here concerns the series itself. PES 2016 provided ample evidence of Konami's ability to continue to create a soccer game that can compete with FIFA on the pitch, and it's vital that that momentum isn't lost next season.

IGN Adria:

PES 2017: Kontrolirajte stvarnost

Nadalje, unutar nešto izmijenjenog Game Plan izbornika sada možete pronaći i tzv.

Novi AI sistem kojeg smo vidjeli u Konamijevoj nadolazećoj nogometnoj simulaciji nosi naziv Adaptive AI, a kako mu i ime sugerira, isti će se prilagođavati razini prijetnje koju ljudski igrač predstavlja.

Iako to nažalost još uvijek nismo imali priliku vidjeti u akciji, ideja novog sistema jest potaknuti igrača da sluša povike svojih suigrača i ostatka nogometne ekipe s klupe.

PES 2017: PES FAN IMPRESSIONS

Hold onto your hats PES Fanners – the first PES 2017 impressions embargo has lifted!

Following the glut of new and improved PES 2017 features revealed last week, we decided to do things a little differently and got Bees?! to explore each one, and find out how it effected the overall game, as well as note down some other observations from the build. Read on to find out what he thought!

REAL TOUCH

They said “See how different players control the ball in unique and different ways based on where and how you control them, dictating the flow of the game based on how they react to the unpredictable movement of the ball.”

First Impressions: This feature was given particular focus during in last week’s press release and within the first few seconds of playing PES 2017 it was easy to see why, as it underpins how a large percentage of the game plays.

There is a real difference between how a player of quality will receive the ball compared to a lesser player, and in a game that is slower than it’s immediate predecessors (more on this later) this could be the difference between a swim counter attack and having to double back and rethink your approach.

As you get more used to this, and the advantages and limitations different players have in receiving the ball, you tend to see you see it shaping the way you play your game. A riskier pass to Pogba is still likely to pay off as a neat flick or tidy footwork effortlessly brings the ball into his stride. The same pass to Mertesacker is liable to be mis-controlled, allowing opponents to gain possession.

The beauty of Real Touch is in it’s subtlety. Animations are for the most part smooth and natural with some of the deftness only realised on further viewing.

PRECISE PASS

They said “Combining Real Touch and real ball physics, passing is an art form in PES 2017. Many factors determine the speed and accuracy of the ball. The pass that is made on the best situation and timing will generate a perfect trajectory, creating a great satisfaction when a killer pass is made.”

Another biggie in the press release and arguably the biggest transition that players will have to get used to between PES 2016 and PES 2017. Passing is now a much more involved affair and gone are the days where a tap of X and a move of the stick in the general desired direction was enough to ping-pong attacks from front to back.

The success of a pass depends vastly on both the power and direction, as well as the position of the passing player and movement of the ball. and that’s not even considering how Real Touch will be effected for the eventual recipient.

This has a knock on for defending with pressing defenders often having an influence in breaking up attacks rather than merely being inanimate statues to pass the ball around.

It is however still possible to build passing attacks, so long as it’s done intelligently, and finding the perfect storm of passing in PES 2017. Often the key is to being the ball back and rebuild, recycling possession and seeking out runners in different areas of the field. Although frustrating at first, it soon starts to click and passes feel all the more rewarding when it pays off.

ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONS

They said “Strategies that are quite individually defined such as Tiki-taka and Tight Marking which is strongly based on team ideology can be set in Advanced Instructions, which adds a huge variety in how you plan to win.”

Within the gameplay menu is the option to select two attacking (you can choose from ‘hug the touchline’, ‘attacking full backs’, ‘wing rotation’, tiki-tala’, ‘false no 9’, ‘centring targets’ and ‘false full backs’) and two defensive (‘tight marking’, ‘drop defensive line’, ‘swarm the box’, ‘counter target’ and ‘gegenpress’.

These are assigned to buttons on the d-pad (up and down for attacking, left and right for defending) and can be selected at any time during the match by pressing that d-pad button along with L2.

Whilst this definitely made a difference to how my team played depending on which option was selected, the full effect this had was limited by the fact the preview code doesn’t allow for the changing of formation or the positioning of individual players. This meant that the team couldn’t be fully optimised to suit the selected instruction.

That being said, the instructions were definitely noticeable and the positions players took up were conistent with the orders being given. For those that like to tinker with tactics, this is definitely one to watch.

GOAL KEEPING

They said “Keepers see a great jump in quality through added motions and animations, creating the most agile keepers in PES history. Attacking moments will be more dramatic than ever, bringing the best feeling of achievement when that goal is scored.”

A much debated topic, goalkeeping has seen undoubted improvements on PES 2017. This is for the most part down to a number of new animations which give keepers the ability to react in ways that they weren’t previously.

One on ones and low shots seem to have been given particular attention in terms of both keeper reach and reaction times with most saves looking natural and fitting with the context of the shot. As was often the case in previous iterations, keepers don’t just look to get their hands to the ball and a desperate foot, chest or forearm can often stop a goal-bound strike.

In addition to this, focus seems to have been paid to where the keepers parry the ball too. Providing they have the necessary time to react they will look to palm the ball away from danger and the number of rebounds both scored and conceded has ben greatly reduced from last year’s offering.

TOTAL TEAM CONTROL

They said “Users can instantly change the attacking and defending mentality of the team, which can be tweaked and carefully controlled with simple controls, being able to immediately react to the unpredictability of the sport.”

This takes the form of a four tiered system giving players the option how much they want to defend or attack (L2 + R1 will go a level more attacking and L2 + R2 a level more defensive). It also works for set pieces which is a nice touch.

As with Advance Instructions, this is hard to fully due to the inability to change from the default formation of the team you are controlling on the preview. On initial use however it seems useful in trying to find a crucial goal, or to shut up shop and protect a lead. Another one to watch in future builds.

CORNER KICK STRATEGIES

They Said “Control the defensive strategies on a set piece, such as marking zonal or Man to Man. Offensive options also included such as specific player movement.”

A press on the right hand side of the d-pad now brings up a series of options of how to attack (dash, train, far post, 6 yard box) or defend (zonal marking or man to man marking). which can be selected by then pressing the corresponding d-pad button.

This brings a complexity to corners that hasn’t been seen for several iterations, especially when combined with the total team control. Balancing the need to attack the corner whilst ensuring your team isn’t prone at the back, and all within the context of the match brings a real depth to the set piece.

ADAPTIVE AI

They said “For the first time in a football game, the AI will learn how you play! Player and team behaviour has always been a staple of the PES series, and for PES 2017 Adaptive AI will change sports games forever.”

Of all the new features introduced in the press release this is by far the most subtle. At no point did I notice any one particular player being ganged up on as was mooted in the press release and whatever was pulling the defensive AI strings was definitely doing it in a way that wasn’t intrusive to the game as a whole.

That being said there were several occasions, especially on Superstar AI difficulty, where I found myself adjusting my game in order to find space, the right pass or to just generally carve out a potential opening.

If this is the result of the Adaptive AI then they’ve nailed the implementation however it’s hard to tell as the defensive AI as a whole enjoys noticeable improvements.

AUTHENTIC VISUALS

They said “For PES 2017 the visuals have seen a major upgrade, offering Authentic Visuals thanks to the further incorporation of Fox Engine. Nothing has been left untouched, from player models, lighting, crowds, pitch and stadiums totally revamped. Never has a game looked so real.”

PES 2017 is the third Pro Evolution Soccer game to feature on next-gem consoles yet KONAMI have still managed to squeeze more out of the Fox Engine and the visuals have once again stepped up a notch from what went before.

As one has become to expect from PES now, player models look incredible and contain even more detail. Work has obviously gone into how hair is presented and it pays off. Likewise there’s a step up in the detailing on the pitch with the grass looking mightily impressive whilst the overall lighting of the stadium has been ever so slightly rejigged and looks even more realistic.

NATURAL PLAYER MOVEMENT

They said “Hundreds of new animations have been added to bring the players and goalkeepers to life – but it doesn’t stop there. New features such as Real Touch and Precise Pass see huge benefit, giving a vast array of movements when trapping and passing the ball.”

When they said “Hundreds of new animations” KONAMI certainly weren’t joking. A plethora of flicks, kicks and touches have been implemented all of which help players look smoother and more natural on the pitch.

These work best hand in hand with the Real Touch and Precise Pass systems and some of the ways players pass and receive the ball are a thing of beauty.

They also help the game become more responsive and the game has enough at is disposal to react to player inputs quickly, without looking clunky or disjointed.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS

Some other things I observed whilst playing the game:

Condition Arrows

It’s all change on the condition arrow colour front. The upward arrow denoting highest form is blue, then comes green (second highest). Yellow is now the mid-point with orange (second lowest) and red (lowest) denoting poor conditions.

Feints

For anyone (me included) who likes a good feint then good news! Not only have more been added but they are now snappier and players react a lot quicker to the input of the user.

Free Kicks and Penalties

Despite a lick of paint (the free-kick / corner and penalty guides have both had redesigns) the system is largely the same as PES 2016.

Game Speed

I was surprised to find that PES 2017 is a lot slower than previous iterations and this takes some getting used to when you **** up the controller for the first time. This benefits the game and gives it a less frantic and more methodological feel.

Goal nets

Work does appear to have gone into the physics of the goal nets and they certainly seem less rigid compared to last time out. Whether this is to the extent wanted by various corners of the community remains to be unseen but I’m happy with the way they look.

The stanchion (or pole holding up the net, for those not in the know!) also wobbles when hit… a very nice touch.

Menus

Only the team set up and in game pause menus are present in the game however these have been reworked with updated branding and a more user-friendly tile system.

Referees / AI Fouling

A major criticism from many in PES 2016, being fouled by the AI… and then that foul being given by the referee is a lot better in PES 2017. By no means do you face 11 Roy Keanes when playing the AI however they have no qualms about diving in if they think the ball can be won, without always winning it.

An improved collision system also helps with this and the game is now more adept at separating a simple shoulder barge from blatant obstruction, and punishing the offender accordingly.

In total, I tended to average around 4-7 fouls against me per game.

Referee Spray

Is in the game! You don’t see the ref apply it, but as you line up the free kick the spray appears around the ball and in front of the wall. It lasts on the pitch for around 5 minutes and also appear in the replays.

Replays

These are now a lot more effective in capturing the action and now allow you to capture full speed replays in a number of broadcast quality angles.

The number of in-game replays also seems to have increased, with the game much more accomplished at showing you key moments within the games played including saves, near misses and fouls.

Tackling

Tackling was one of my favourite parts of PES 2016 so it’s of little surprise that these have pretty much been left alone. A heavy tackle (or indeed a foul) now causes the controller to vibrate which adds a haptic element to the game and cranks the satisfaction of nailing an inch perfect tackle up a notch.

Teams / Stadiums / Balls

Four fully licensed teams are included in the preview (France, Germany, Atletico Madrid and Arsenal). The latter is particularly exciting as the Londoners haven’t appeared licensed in the game since PES 6 – they also have the wear their recently released 2016/17 Puma home shirt.

Only one stadium makes it into the game – the fictional Neu Sonne Arena, whilst the ball used in the screenshots released last week also features.

Transfers and Roster Updates

No transfers from this summer have been added into the game, but brand manager Adam Bhatti has been quoted in the impression reviews of many other publications as confirming that roster updates will be present for the release of the game.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

Although this is an early build of PES 2017, and there are still some niggles to be addressed, this is a really promising display. It is clear that feedback from the community about the shortcomings have been listened to by the team whilst the new features have helped gameplay make real strides forward.

If the game continues to build on this early promise then it could be something really special!

WHAT NEXT?

The next new information about PES 2017 has been promised for E3 which takes place between June 14-16.

In the meantime, PES Fan will be at tomorrow’s PES day along with other members of the PES community where we’ll be trying to answer any questions you have about PES 2017… therefore, if there’s anything gameplay related you want to know about the game, make sure you head here and ask!

Condition Arrows

It’s all change on the condition arrow colour front. The upward arrow denoting highest form is blue, then comes green (second highest). Yellow is now the mid-point with orange (second lowest) and red (lowest) denoting poor condition - hm...raspolozenja igraca su sad obrnuta, plava strelica je najbolja,a crvena najgora, glupost, ali ajde, potrebno je navici se na tu promenu posle 100 godina.

Game Speed

I was surprised to find that PES 2017 is a lot slower than previous iterations and this takes some getting used to when you **** up the controller for the first time. This benefits the game and gives it a less frantic and more methodological feel - - hvala ****u i svim silama svemira, valjda ce nestati taj "ping pong dupli pas siluj R1" osecaj.

Referees / AI Fouling
...in total, I tended to average around 4-7 fouls against me per game - ohrabrujuce zvuci,ja najvise protiv CPU-a igram.

Gamesradar:

"It’s worth noting, too, that net physics are astonishingly lifelike now. Instead of successful shots sagging into the net, some come flying back out and pinball around the box – and when that happens you can slam the ball home for a second time. It’s a brilliant, satisfying little detail which suggests Konami is really pushing hard to deliver the beautiful game’s intricacies in addition to its fundamentals"
